Sustainability
As you can see the Olympics is planned to be a very sustainable event. The Government have
made various plans and promises to keep it as green and sustainable as
possible, but so did Sydney and Athens a few years ago.
In 2004
Athens was holding the Olympics and promised to have green and sustainable
Olympics. But despite everything they planned they didn’t make enough money
from the Olympics. So they had to sell most of the facilities of for cheap.
Most of the public facilities fell in disuse and were not maintained
afterwards.
Also in the Sydney Olympics, the government had planned to sell the athletes village houses straight to the public for cheap. But again, the government needed more money so they had to sell the houses to estate agents who then increased the pricing.
Seeing this, the point is that this could also happen with the London 2012 Olympics. Even the UK government has made lots of plans and promises to the people living in the area. But if the government doesn’t get enough money from the actual games they will have to break their promises and axe jobs or sell the houses at expensive rate which will then make it even more inaccessible for the general middle class people living in that area.
